He worked as an accountant for the American Smelting and Refining Company, Perth Amboy and New York. He was retired.
He married twice. His first wife, Ruth Esty Alpaugh died in 1960.
He died in Cedarbrook Nursing Home, Plainfield, after a long illness. He was 81 years old. He was buried in Riverside Cemetery on March 3, 1970.
He was survived by his second wife, Mrs. Ernah Cummings Alpaugh, and one sister, Mrs. Edward Wyckoff of Clinton.
