Rev. David L. Coblentz of Middletown, Maryland was called home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, October 19, 2012, at the age of 58. He was born in Hagerstown, Maryland, and grew up in Hagerstown, Middletown and Laurel.
He is predeceased by his mother Thelma Swomley Coblentz and step-mother Vilma Blasko Coblentz, and several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife Brenda Coblentz, father Walter Coblentz, two brothers and their wives Mark and Joanie Coblentz and Eric and Patty Coblentz, a step sister and her husband Kenneth and Joanne Byrnes, two step brothers and their wives Daniel and Paulette Blasko and Joseph and Cindy Blasko, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, Lois Brinkley, Janie and Stefan Nalborczyk Sr., and Sandra and William Stephens, nieces Elizabeth Chisholm and Erica Coblentz, nephews Andrew Coblentz, Ethan Coblentz, and Evan Coblentz, niece-in-law Margaret Coates, nephews-in-law Ludwig Heubisch, Herbert Heubisch, Stefan Nalborczyk Jr., Joseph Nalborczyk, David Nalborczyk, Lee Stephens, Les Stephens, Frankie Stephens, step nieces Carol Hickey, Meghan Concepcion, Jill Alexander, step nephews Charles Hickey, Joseph Blasko, Brian Blasko, and Timothy Blasko, and several great nieces and nephews, and great great nephews and nieces, and Uncle Austin Coblentz and Aunt Doris Coblentz.
Dave graduated from Arundel High School, received a B.S. in Management and Marketing from the University of Maryland, a Masters of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Southern Seminary, and was working on a Doctorate in Biblical Counseling from Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary.
David was the former pastor of Greenbrier Baptist Church in Boonsboro, Maryland from 1995-2010 and chaplain from 2010-present. He was ordained into the ministry by Greenbrier Baptist Church. He served as Deacon at South End Baptist Church for several years before being licensed as a minister by South End Baptist Church. He loved Jesus, loved working for his Lord and deeply committed to the Great Commission. He was involved in many ministries such as Sunday School teacher, visiting prisoners and foreign sailors in port at Baltimore, truck stop ministry, youth ministry, nursing home ministry, and Appalachian mission trips. In all things he gave God the glory.
Prior to becoming a pastor, Dave worked in various jobs and ministries which prepared him well for the pastorate. He was an orderly in Frederick Memorial Hospital, a 911 dispatcher for Frederick County when it was just one phone and a couple of operators, a tenant farmer, assistant manager at McDonalds and other food service companies, a turnkey in the Frederick jail, life insurance salesman, and water and sewer products salesman at General Engineering Company.
For the past few years, he served as a volunteer chaplain for the Middletown Valley Fire Company (MVFC), fire chaplain for the Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association (FCVF&RA), assistant chaplain for the Maryland State Firemen's Association, and President of the Everett Gaver Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Firefighters.
As a member of the MVFC for 37 years, Dave served the community as a firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician, and had the joy of delivering five babies. He was given the FCVF&RA Hall of Fame award, FCVF&RA Heart of a Volunteer award, MVFC Life Member award, and MVFC Everett W. Gaver Memorial Award. He is a founding member of the Frederick County Fire and Rescue Museum.
He loved singing, fishing, photography, baseball, basketball, bowling, reading the Bible and other Christian literature, traveling, and socializing with his many friends. Dave was in the Boy Scouts and the Little League and received sportsmanship awards. He was on Bowling Fun TV Show in 1968 and won the trophy. Everyone who knew Dave from a small child always thought he was a really nice person and during his illnesses people would tell him he was a wonderful, sweet man and a pleasure to be around. Many people would say he helped them with his kind words of comfort and advice and that it was easy to talk to him. Through all his health struggles, he remained positive and hopeful. Many times people with serious health issues would tell him that he was an inspiration and gave them hope. He will be greatly missed but we are comforted that he is in the everlasting arms of Jesus.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 on Monday, October 22, 2012 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Maryland.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Fire Service on October 22 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be at South End Baptist Church, 506 Carrollton Drive, Frederick, Maryland, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday October 23.

It is with a heavy heart that the members of the Middletown Volunteer Fire Company announce the loss of Life Member and current Chaplain David Coblentz.
David Lee Coblentz was born on March 13, 1954.
During the younger years of his life, Dave had graduated from Arundel High School, recieved a B.S. in Management and Marketing from the University of Maryland, a Masters of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Seminary, and was working on a Doctorate in Biblical Counseling from the Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary.
In 1973, Dave joined the Middletown Volunteer Fire Company #7. During his years with the Fire Company he served on numerous committees and held many offices. Some of the positions that he held were, Assistant Secretary, Assistant Treasurer, Board of Director, 2nd Ambulance Lieutenant, 1st Ambulance Lieutenant, 2nd Fire Lieutenant, 1st Fire Lieutenant, and in recent years as our Company Chaplain.
Dave was also an active member with the Junior's Company 2 in Frederick City. He had worked several jobs in the are as well. Some of them included; The General Engineering Company in Frederick; as an ER orderly at Frederick Memorial Hospital; a Dispatcher with the Frederick City Police and with ECC (Central Alarm) dispatching Fire and EMS calls.
In the early 1990's, Dave decided to take his willingness to help people to the next level and became an Ordain Minister. From 1995-2012 Dave was the minister at the Greenbrier Baptist Church in Boonsboro Md. Due to his illness, Dave retired from the Church in 2012. In 2001, Dave also received training in the Critical Incident Stress Management program (CISM), and when called upon was able to assist with these briefing's all over the State.
Dave was not only the Chaplain for his Volunteer Fire Company. He was also the Chaplain for the Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association and the current Assistant Chaplain for the Maryland State Fireman's Association. This State position took him around the State for meetings and special events.
During his 37 years in the Company, Dave was trained as a EMT/Firefighter and was an apparatus driver. He served many years on an Ambulance Duty Crew, where he got to meet and teach many new EMT's. Due to his dedication to serve others, Dave also received many awards. Some of them included; Life Membership of the MVFC; FCVF&RA Hall of Fame award; FCVF&RA Heart of a Volunteer award, and the MVFC Everett Gaver Memorial award. He was also a founding member of the Frederick County Fire and Rescue Museum.
Pastor Dave (as many in the Fire Company called him) was loved by many and was always willing to take a few minutes to talk to everyone he came into contact with, whether on the street or before and after a Company meeting. He will surely be missed by the Church community, the Fire/Rescue community and all of his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Brenda Coblentz, father Walter Coblentz, two brothers and their wives Mark and Joanie Coblentz and Eric and Patty Coblentz, a step sister and her husband Kenneth and Joanne Byrnes, two step brothers and their wives Daniel and Paulette Blasko and Joseph and Cindy Blasko, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, Lois Brinkley, Janie and Stefan Nalborczyk Sr., and Sandra and William Stephens, nieces Elizabeth Chisholm and Erica Coblentz, nephews Andrew Coblentz, Ethan Coblentz, and Evan Coblentz, niece-in-law Margaret Coates, nephews-in-law Ludwig Heubisch, Herbert Heubisch, Stefan Nalborczyk Jr., Joseph Nalborczyk, David Nalborczyk, Lee Stephens, Les Stephens, Frankie Stephens, step nieces Carol Hickey, Meghan Concepcion, Jill Alexander, step nephews Charles Hickey, Joseph Blasko, Brian Blasko, and Timothy Blasko, and several great nieces and nephews, and great great nephews and nieces, and Uncle Austin Coblentz and Aunt Doris Coblentz.
Dave graduated from Arundel High School, received a B.S. in Management and Marketing from the University of Maryland, a Masters of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Southern Seminary, and was working on a Doctorate in Biblical Counseling from Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary.
David was the former pastor of Greenbrier Baptist Church in Boonsboro, Maryland from 1995-2010 and chaplain from 2010-present. He was ordained into the ministry by Greenbrier Baptist Church. He served as Deacon at South End Baptist Church for several years before being licensed as a minister by South End Baptist Church. He loved Jesus, loved working for his Lord and deeply committed to the Great Commission. He was involved in many ministries such as Sunday School teacher, visiting prisoners and foreign sailors in port at Baltimore, truck stop ministry, youth ministry, nursing home ministry, and Appalachian mission trips. In all things he gave God the glory.
Prior to becoming a pastor, Dave worked in various jobs and ministries which prepared him well for the pastorate. He was an orderly in Frederick Memorial Hospital, a 911 dispatcher for Frederick County when it was just one phone and a couple of operators, a tenant farmer, assistant manager at McDonalds and other food service companies, a turnkey in the Frederick jail, life insurance salesman, and water and sewer products salesman at General Engineering Company.
For the past few years, he served as a volunteer chaplain for the Middletown Valley Fire Company (MVFC), fire chaplain for the Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association (FCVF&RA), assistant chaplain for the Maryland State Firemen's Association, and President of the Everett Gaver Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Firefighters.
As a member of the MVFC for 37 years, Dave served the community as a firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician, and had the joy of delivering five babies. He was given the FCVF&RA Hall of Fame award, FCVF&RA Heart of a Volunteer award, MVFC Life Member award, and MVFC Everett W. Gaver Memorial Award. He is a founding member of the Frederick County Fire and Rescue Museum.
He loved singing, fishing, photography, baseball, basketball, bowling, reading the Bible and other Christian literature, traveling, and socializing with his many friends. Dave was in the Boy Scouts and the Little League and received sportsmanship awards. He was on Bowling Fun TV Show in 1968 and won the trophy. Everyone who knew Dave from a small child always thought he was a really nice person and during his illnesses people would tell him he was a wonderful, sweet man and a pleasure to be around. Many people would say he helped them with his kind words of comfort and advice and that it was easy to talk to him. Through all his health struggles, he remained positive and hopeful. Many times people with serious health issues would tell him that he was an inspiration and gave them hope. He will be greatly missed but we are comforted that he is in the everlasting arms of Jesus.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 on Monday, October 22, 2012 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Maryland.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Fire Service on October 22 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be at South End Baptist Church, 506 Carrollton Drive, Frederick, Maryland, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday October 23.
The funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Kenneth Stalls of South End Baptist Church. Pallbearers are Clarence "Chip" Jewell, Richard alexander, Dwight Koogle, Steve Leatherman, John "Jody" Yee, and Richard Toms, Jr.
Interment will be at the Christ Reformed Church Cemetery in Middletown.

It is with a heavy heart that the members of the Middletown Volunteer Fire Company announce the loss of Life Member and current Chaplain David Coblentz.
David Lee Coblentz was born on March 13, 1954.
During the younger years of his life, Dave had graduated from Arundel High School, recieved a B.S. in Management and Marketing from the University of Maryland, a Masters of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Seminary, and was working on a Doctorate in Biblical Counseling from the Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary.
In 1973, Dave joined the Middletown Volunteer Fire Company #7. During his years with the Fire Company he served on numerous committees and held many offices. Some of the positions that he held were, Assistant Secretary, Assistant Treasurer, Board of Director, 2nd Ambulance Lieutenant, 1st Ambulance Lieutenant, 2nd Fire Lieutenant, 1st Fire Lieutenant, and in recent years as our Company Chaplain.
Dave was also an active member with the Junior's Company 2 in Frederick City. He had worked several jobs in the are as well. Some of them included; The General Engineering Company in Frederick; as an ER orderly at Frederick Memorial Hospital; a Dispatcher with the Frederick City Police and with ECC (Central Alarm) dispatching Fire and EMS calls.
In the early 1990's, Dave decided to take his willingness to help people to the next level and became an Ordain Minister. From 1995-2012 Dave was the minister at the Greenbrier Baptist Church in Boonsboro Md. Due to his illness, Dave retired from the Church in 2012. In 2001, Dave also received training in the Critical Incident Stress Management program (CISM), and when called upon was able to assist with these briefing's all over the State.
Dave was not only the Chaplain for his Volunteer Fire Company. He was also the Chaplain for the Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association and the current Assistant Chaplain for the Maryland State Fireman's Association. This State position took him around the State for meetings and special events.
During his 37 years in the Company, Dave was trained as a EMT/Firefighter and was an apparatus driver. He served many years on an Ambulance Duty Crew, where he got to meet and teach many new EMT's. Due to his dedication to serve others, Dave also received many awards. Some of them included; Life Membership of the MVFC; FCVF&RA Hall of Fame award; FCVF&RA Heart of a Volunteer award, and the MVFC Everett Gaver Memorial award. He was also a founding member of the Frederick County Fire and Rescue Museum.
Pastor Dave (as many in the Fire Company called him) was loved by many and was always willing to take a few minutes to talk to everyone he came into contact with, whether on the street or before and after a Company meeting. He will surely be missed by the Church community, the Fire/Rescue community and all of his family and friends.
