Daughter of John Luster, a wealthy merchant who owned Natural Bridge in Lexington, Va. for some time. According to my grandmother, "he was a Christian man who was well liked. The Curds and Lusters were talented in music and liked people and the finer things in life."
Susan Luster married John Edward Curd on August 3, 1837 at Blue Ridge Hotel in Botetourt County, Va. with Elder A. C. Denny officiating.
They had 14 children: Luminar Jane Curd (1838); Ellen Susan Curd (1839); John Thomas Curd (1841); Ann Elizabeth Curd (1843); James Albert Curd (1845); Mary Catherine Curd (1848); Virginia Bracie Curd (1849); William Henry Curd (1851); Lucy Browning Curd (1853); Betty Alice Curd (1855); Josephine Curd (1857); Sarah "Sallie" Thomson Curd (1859); Lillian Alberta Curd (1863); and Charles Edward Curd (1865).
She passed away on May 8, 1895 at Iron Gate, Botetourt County, Va.
She is buried in an unmarked grave at Bethel Cemetery next to her daughter Virginia Bracie Curd, who died young.
