MACDOUGALL, Peter A.
Peter was born on August 2, 1921, in Arthur Township. He joined the Army on
October 6, 1941 and served with the Royal Canadian Engineers in England, France,
Belgium, Holland and Germany during World War II. He recalls being stationed
near Caen in France when a dispatch rider came by and told him the 3rd Division
LAA was set up in a field nearby. His younger brother, Tuffy, was in that division
so he jumped on the back of the dispatcher's motorcycle and went to see him. Their
visit was cut short when the Germans flew over and Tuffy had to get back on the
gun. Peter headed back to his division and it was a long time before he saw his
brother again. He was discharged on February 26, 1946. Peter was Past President
of The Royal Canadian Legion Mount Forest Branch 134 where he played an
integral role in collecting wartime artifacts for a display at the Legion. He was a
member there for thirty years before he passed away on October 14, 2010.
