Hannah was the daughter of Stanhope S. Cooley and Harriett S. Welling. Her grandfather was Rev. Eli F. Cooley, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Ewing, NJ. Hannah completed and published her grandfather's book, "Genealogy of Early Settlers in Trenton and Ewing ..." in 1883. (Her middle initial is shown in the introduction to that book, and also in the 1860 Census.)
