When Howard F. Beck was born on July 10, 1913, in Minnesota, his father, Axel, was 32 and his mother, Sarah, was 27. He had one brother and three sisters. He died on October 7, 1980, in Hutchinson, Minnesota, at the age of 67.

Howard was raised on a farm in Elmdale Minnesota when he left home at 17. His brother was Ernest Beck, his sisters were Florence Irene, Frieda & Marguerite.
He worked as a Janitor/Manager of a roller rink in Franklin Minnesota. One evening Virginia Jorges and a group of her friends went roller-skating, the occassion of meeting Virginia led to marriage on November 29th, 1941--Howard being 28 years old and prepared to go to Panama with a construction company to build a second Panama Canal.

Howard Francis Beck married Virginia May Jorges on November 29th, 1941 on the Indian reservation in Morton, They were the first White Couple ever married at St. Cornelius Mission, in Morton Minnesota. Starting a family trend which other family members followed for christenings as well as for weddings.
Howard must have left nearly immediately following their marriage, when the bombing of Pearl Harbour occurred early the next month the government called for all American's abroad to
Howard F. Beck left Cristobal, Panama, for New Orleans, Louisiana, arriving on March 16, 1942, at the age of 29. The American Government had called off the mega project and all workers returned home.

Howard then travelled back to Minnesota and soon after, with his bride; Virginia set off to California Kieser Steel Yards. Where they both were employed as welders for the duration of the war.
Following the war Howard and Virginia returned to Minnesota where he worked as a trucker in the winter months and during the summer he resumed work in construction. He worked at the Kraft Food processing plant.
For a short time he owned the BECK TEXACO gas & cafe. He ran the gas station as Virginia ran the cafe.

A former construction worker wedler and traucker, Howard Beck has been a policeman in Hutchinson for nearly 11yrs, Joining the force in April 1962 after the closing of the KRAFT food plant in 1962 for which he had been a trucker. First exposed to police work at Fairfax Minnesota in 1956. Howard was born on a farm north of Hutchinson. He was a son of the Late Axel Beck and Sarah Estelle Eckert. He was a long time member of the Minn. Police and Peace officers association.
...On the farm until he was 17 years of age.
During ww2 Beck signed up with a construction firm building canal in Panama Zone which was never completed.
They moved to Richmond California where THEY worked in a shipyard for Kieser Steel.
Returned to Minnesota where they lived in Franklin. Howard did construction in the summer, trucked during the winter.
Joining a five man policeman force in Hutchinson and now one of ten officers in the department.
He recieved his Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and basic police training at Arden Hills, Minnesota.
Beck's first training was with the Fairfax Police Force.
They lived on Merril street, had four kids, were prominent members of St. John's Episcopal church. He enjoyed roller skating, a passion he always held, and was an accomplished showman at the rink.
SO much so that Virginia noticed her Howard. met on the roller rink where he was the manager/janitor of the rink.

Survirors include Widow, 2 daughters Mrs. James Lattner (Barbara) of Cloquet, Mn. Mrs. Micheal (Mary) Evans of Mound Minnesota. Two sons ,John Beck of Morris, Charles Beck of Cloquet. 6 grandchildren.

Mrs. Lee Irene Cook of Robinsondale, Minnesaota.
Mrs. Alvin Frieda Shott (mother of (Donna-Bevv -Gary) of Hutchinson and one brother Ernest Beck of Hutchinson. Preceding him were his Parents, Axel and Sarah Estelle Eckhardt Beck. and one sister Margaret Matzke.

ABOUT VIRGINIA JORGES BECK:
Virgin & Howard owned a gas/café called Becks Texaco at Franklin Minnesota.
Virginia stayed at home when the girls (Barbara and Mary) were young. She improved her qualifications while her boys (John and ?) were attending school.
Virginia later worked in the School Library and then Resource Center in Hutchinson. Her later employment as the private secretary of the Principal brought her retirement.

Virginia was the daughter of Walter and Ester Jorges. She was the sister to Walter (Bud) passed away young at 17, Robert and Ursala.

Virginia May Beck 87, of Hutchinson passes away peacefully on July 7, 2006 Cedar Crest Estate. Up until her short stay at Crest Estate Virginia remained at her home on Merril Street.
Born on Feb 22, 1919 in Renville County Minnesota. She was the daughter of Walter and Ester (Riley) Jorges. Receiving baptism as an infant and later confirmed in her faith as a member of the Episcopal Church. She received her education in Morton and Franklin and was a graduate of Franklin High School. She worked in the telephone company following graduation. She furthered her education.
1941, this marriage was blessed with for children and her marriage to Howard Beck of 39 years ended up his death on October 7, 1980.
In addition to being a loving mother and homemaker Virginia held employment as a telephone operator in Franklin, worked as a welder in the Claifornia Shipyards in ww2, and also worked in the Hutchinson School District for over 20 years. She was life,
Enjoyed motor cycling, a volunteer with Historic society, President of girl scouts,
President of Guiyld at the Church, involved with parent teachers association. Virginia May (Jorges) Beck was the mother of 4 children,9 grandchildren 8 great grand children, and a sister in law Maryln Davis (Roberts widow). Preceded in death BARBARA Latner (BECK) and Howard in 1980.
