He was a graduate of Greenview High School and the University of Illinois with a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science.
Richard was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and the Moose Lodge. Prior to graduation he served three years in the Army Air Corp as a tail gunner on a B-24 bomber in Europe during World War II.
Upon graduation he was employed by the Merchants National Bank in Aurora, Illinois as their farm manager for twelve years. Richard also served as the Asst. Director of the Dept. of Foods and Dairies for the State of Illinois. He later became an area supervisor with the Farmers Home Administration while living in Florida. Richard was also was an active leader of 4H clubs, judging team coach, and served on numerous advisory councils.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty nine years, the former Lucille M. (Tobias) Elliott.
He is survived by his son Bill (Elaine) Elliott of Petersburg, IL; four grandchildren, Ron (Betsy) Elliott of Petersburg, IL, Kari (Nick) Leitze of Peoria, IL, Brian Elliott of Mason City, IL, Lisa Williams of Jacksonville, FL; and nine great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
