"The funeral services for Edmund Gehrig, 75 years old, a pioneer Pocahontas county resident, who died at his home here Thursday evening, were held at Sacred Heart church at 9:00 o'clock Saturday morning. The Rev. Father G. F. Wessling officiated.

Mr. Gehrig died about 6 o'clock Thursday night following an illness of only two weeks. He died eight years to the day after he suffered a stroke.

He is survived by his daughter, at whose home he lived, Mrs. H.M. Elsasser, and another daughter, Miss Eleanor Gehrig of Ft. Dodge, a nurse at Mercy hospital, two stepsons, Albert Shimon, Pocahontas and Lawrence Shimon, of Gilmore City, 3 granddaughters, Agnes Leona Esasser, of Pocahontas, and one great granddaughter, Jeanette Ann Lilly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lilly.

Mr. Gehrig is also survived by a brother, Emanuel Gehrig, of Barnsville, Minn.

Mr. Grehrig was born in Germany Oct. 13, 1858 and came to this country while a young man. He settled first in Carroll county on a farm and about 50 years ago, moved to Pocahontas county which had remained his home ever since.

Burial was made in Calvary cemetery here.

The following old friends acted as pallbearers: John Kleen, John Shors, Frank Eberle, Pat Wolfe, Joe Seifried and F. E. Hronek."

Edmund Gehrig is the son of Matthäus Gehrig and Maria Eva Hegsdens. After the death of his mother in 1883 he and his father and brother Emanuel left Germany and emigrated to America. They arrived in July 1885. One year later his older brother Nikolaus emigrated together with his wife Johanna (Jane) and three children.
