Married to Olive Stoddard 1756-1842. (buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery Rochester NY, daughter of Capt. Briant Stoddard and Phebe Barnes.)
Jeremiah Selkrig was born on the 25th of May in 1756 in Derby Connneticut. He served in the militia 6 times over the period of 5 years. The first time was in July of 1776,at Farmington, Connecticut. He entered Captin Amos Breeche's Company, Colonel Fisher Guy's regiment, Militia of Connecticut, for three months. They marched to New Haven , sailed to New York, and engaged in battle at Brooklyn Heights at Long Island. Jeremiah was sick however and not in battle. He recived a furlough upon the return of the regiment and was discharged in October.
The following April, he was drafted into Captain Asa Bray's company of Colonel Hooker's regiment, at Farmington. He went to Peeskill, NY, and served there six weeks until the company was discharged.
He then went to Waterbury, CT, but two weeks later was called into Capt. Castle's company, Col. Baldwin's regiment. He went to Fishkill and was there until being ordered to Red Hook. He was discharged in Nov. 1777.
In April of 1777, he was again drafted into Col. Hooker's regiment. He served alternately as drum major and fife major and was discharge in July.In April of 1779, he again was drafted into Colonel Hooker's regiment at Waterbury.He served alternatly as drum major and fife major and was discharged in July.In August, Jeremiah voulentered as a fifer in Captin Issac Bronson's company of Col.Ezikebel Sabin's regiment. He was in New Haven until discharge in October, 1779.In July of 1781 at Waterbury, Jeremiah was drafted into Capt. Norton's company, Col. Worthington's regiment.He went first to New London and then Norwich, next to Warrick, Rhode Island, on to Providence,and finally to Saybrook , Conneticut, where he was discharged in October. He moved to Clavarack ,New York in 1787 and married. He and his wife, Olive Ann, had four sons, James , Loren, William and Jeremiah, and four daughters, Mary, Rhoda, Louisa and Elizabeth.
Jeremiah lived in several places in New York over the years as well as Connecticut and later Michigan.
Jeremiah's son, James, became a priest in the episcopal church. he was called to Michigan and established a mission for indians in Allegan County.
On 14 Nov. 1852, Jeremiah died. he was buried on the north side of Selkirk lake in Wayland Township, Allegan County. The few tombstones can be seen readily from 127th Ave. Jeremiah's tombstone is inscribed Jeremia Selkrig. Fife Major. Hooker's CT. Militia Rev. War.
