McGraw Carl D. Hammond, 82, retired McGraw and Cortland manufacturer died early Sunday morning (March 27, 1966) in the Cortland Memorial Hospital following a heart attack suffered at his home 13 E. Main St. in the village, Saturday.

Mr. Hammond was a resident of McGraw save for a few years in residence in Cortland. He was born on June 20, 1883, the son of Dayton and Mary Gross Hammond, attended elementary school and the academy in the village and was graduated from the Syracuse Business Institute.

He was for several years employed at the First National Bank as a young man beginning a career. In 1906 he was married to Linnie A. Brown and resided in Cortland. Five years later returning to McGraw, Hammond became a management member of the Vesta corset Co. with F. J. Potter, Frank Wildman, Fred McLean and Claud McLean. Some years later he returned to banking in Cortland but engaged again in the manufacture of corsets in McGraw with Carl Price, the late James C. Brown and Fred A. Purchase.

Individually, he founded the Hammond Corset Co., in Cortland in 195- from which enterprise himself in benevolent and community concerns.

Mr. Hammond was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of McGraw for many years an offer and in recent years has served as chairman of the parish board of trustees. For a number of years he was the chairman of the board of Library. At the time of his death he was a member of the Advisory Board of the Marine Midland Trust o. of Southern N.Y.

Following the death of his wife in 1962 Hammond was married to Mrs. FlorenceFoster Hopkins of St. Petersburg, Fla. He is survived by his widow, several nephews, nieces and cousins.
