Deceased Name: GORDON GENE AHLGREN

Gordon Gene Ahlgren, 55, of Hayward, Wis., passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2004 at his home after fighting a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
Gordy ''Auggie'' Ahlgren was born Feb. 11, 1949 in Cloquet, Minn., the son of George and Senja (Ylikoski) Ahlgren.
He graduated from Cloquet High School in 1967, where he excelled in football and hockey. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota in Duluth where he played football. Upon graduating from UMD he taught school in Grand Marais, Minn., and Hayward, Wis. Gordy was a respected teacher and coach for thirty years, coaching track, golf, football and hockey. He took the Hayward hockey team to the state playoffs and many track and field athletes to state competition as well. Gordy loved sports, golfing, hunting and fishing, and pontooning on Round Lake.
Gordy is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Kewith), Hayward; his brothers, George (Elaine) Duluth, Arnold (Kathy), Hayward, Ronald (Kathy) and Bruce (Marla), both of Cloquet; his sisters, Arlene Anderson and Rose (Jerome) Manderfeld, both of Cloquet; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Randy (Amy) Sopicki, San Diego, Calif., Cheryl (Jim) Purdy, Chicago, Ill., Laura (Jerry) Baloun, Mokena, Ill., Mark Sopicki, Chicago, Ill., and Janice Sopicki, Chicago, Ill., numerous loving nieces and nephews; and special aunts and uncles Lyyli and Leo Keskinen and Mae and Olli Rautio.
Gordy was preceded in death by his parents; and several aunts and uncles.
FUNERAL SERVICE:11 a.m. on Thursday, April 22, at the Hayward Wesleyan Church with Pastor Benjamine Drown officiating. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Anderson-Nathan Funeral Home in Hayward and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Cloquet, at 4 p.m. on Thursday.Casket Bearers will be Brian, Erik, Jason, and Jon Ahlgren, Kris Anderson, and David Manderfeld. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Hayward Sports Center. Anderson-Nathan Funeral Home. 715-634-2609
