William M. Canby, 79, a real es-
tate developer in the Washington
area before moving to Florida in
1950, died in a hospital in Bruns-
wick, Ga., Sunday following a heart
attack. He was vacationing in Geor-
gia at the time he was stricken.
A native of Montgomery County,
Mr. Canby lived in Washington be-
fore moving to Seminole, Fla. In
addition to managing his real es-
state interest, he was a member of
the board of the National City
Company, a Washington financial
institution.
After moving to Florida, Mr.
Canby founded a real estate firm.
He went into semi-retirement in
1980.
His wife, Margaret Hart Canby,
died in 1972. Survivors include a
daughter, Retta Canby McLarney,
of Bluemont, Va.
The family suggest that expres-
sions of sympathy be in the form of
contributions to the American Can-
cer Society.
