From the Winona Rep. Herald August 16, 1895:
St. Charles Painter Passes Away in a Strange Manner
Martin Lee, a well-known painter at St. Charles, went last Monday to the residence of Ole Meile, about ten miles south of St. Charles to do a job of painting. On Friday evening he lay down outside the house and refused to come into the house to go to bed. When the family arose in the morning they found Lee where he had been the night before, but dead. Lee was 45 years old and leaves a wife and two daughters. The remains were taken to St. Charles for interment.
He leaves two daughters, Carrie and Mathilda.
