PRINCETON - Gula V. Ball, 90, formerly of Mount Hope, died Monday, May 24, 1999, in a Princeton hospital following a short illness.

Born Jan. 6, 1909, in Winona, she was the daughter of the late James W. and Martha Ellen Bailes Halstead.

Mrs. Ball was of the Baptist faith and was a Mount Hope resident for more than 60 years. She was a graduate of Concord College and a retired school teacher with 30 years of service with the Fayette County Board of Education.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil A. Ball; a brother; and six sisters.

Survivors include a son, Andrew W. Ball and his wife, Linda, of Cartersville, Ga.; three daughters, Myrna L. Painter and her husband, Bill, of Princeton, Myra L. Crotty and her husband, Robert, of Shady Spring and Trisha S. Long and her husband, Randy, of Austin, Texas; a brother, Bob Halstead of Charleston; three sisters, Frieda Edwards of Ona, Regina Jamison of Huntington and Almeda Warner of Houston; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Ed Garten officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before services Thursday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
