Son of Benjamin and Sarah Pounds. As a young man, he came with them to Jewell Co. KS. There he married Annie Puckett in 1872. The family moved to Harrison Co. IA sometime before 1900. Their children who reached adulthood, married, and had offspring include Charlie and Benjamin Franklin.

Amos experienced dire poverty in his life, but he was a fighter. Newspaper clippings describe two knife fights he was involved in, but charges against him were dismissed by the judge in both cases. His wife stayed with him through all of their difficulties, and his children went on to have good lives.

No marker for his grave appears to exist.
