F/L Johnston was one of five RCAF airmen and two RCAF dependents who perished in the crash of Bristol 170 Freighter 31M (#9697) aircraft as it approached the Marville aerodrome at 1(F) Wing, Marville, France, on 30 Dec 1963. His brother, Group Captain E. R. ('Russ') Johnston, also based in 2 Wing at that time, was the Commanding Officer of 2 (F) Wing.

Hazel Mary BACH and her son,
6yo Donald George BACH.

He is also remembered with love and honour on a family grave monument in the Malvern Cemetery in Lennoxville, Quebec, Canada.
