Louis Nissen Is Injured in Auto Crash
___

Wife and Two Children Less
Seriously Hurt, Though
Cut and Bruised
____

Louis Nissen, 31, farmer residing west of the city, was very severely injured about 5:30 o'clock, Sunday afternoon, in an auto crash which occurred at an intersection curve on the Dannebrog-Cairo road, in the vicinity of Abbott, northwest of Grand Island, when the car which he was driving was struck broadside by a car driven by Lew Meyer, of Cairo. Mr. Nissen's left arm, at the elbow, was very badly cut from glass, the gash being so severe as almost to sever the arm.

Two nerve trunks at the elbow were cut, muscles were torn and the skin was badly lacerated. So profuse was the bleeding that Mr. Nissen's condition was very critical when he was brought to the St. Francis hospital for treatment, a short time later and it was first be- lived a blood transfusion would be required, but he later responded more favorably to treatment and Monday morning his condition showed some improvement. His injury is of such serious nature, however, that the at- tending physician is of the opinion that his arm will be permanently crippled.

HIs wife, Mrs. Anna Nissen, 30, and their two children, Donald, 4, and Doris, 18 months, also occupants of the car, were less seriously hurt. Mrs. Nissen's major injuries consist of cuts and bruises about the body and the children escaped with minor bruises. All, however, are at present being treated at the St. Francis hospital.

In the Meyer car were Mr. and Mrs. Meyer and two children. Mr. Meyer was cut on one hand and a daughter, Lucille, aged about sixteen, sustained quite a bump on her head.

***** From Contributor 49340405: His arm was almost severed in the car accident and he ultimately died from gas gangrene due to debris in the wound.
