One of ten children, Kathleen came to the United States alone from Ireland at the age of only 17. Two older brothers (Bernard and Patrick) had preceded her. Two younger sisters (Anna and Helen) also eventually came to the U.S. Upon arrival in New York City, Kathleen worked as an indentured servant to pay off her passage fare. Later, after being abandoned by her husband, she supported herself and her daughter by working as a waitress at a Brooklyn bar popular with NYC professional baseball players, who all loved her. Cancer took her life way too early, leaving a beloved granddaughter bereft. She is buried in the DeBold plot with the family of her daughter's husband.
