Alexander D. McMurray

Alexander D. McMurray was born Feb. 18, 1844, Pickering Township, Ontario, Canada. He was married Sept. 8, 1871, to Miss Helen Thomson, and moved to Smith county, Kansas in 1878. He was a successful teacher and taught in school in Canada and in the United States. For about twenty years he served as postmaster at Sherwood, Kans. Five years ago Mr. McMurray moved to Red Cloud, where he has since resided. He was a member of the Canadian M. E. church and remained in that fellowship until death. He was also a member of the Masonic fraternity.

For some time before his death he had been in feeble health and on Saturday, Dec. 16th, at Blue Hill Mr. McMurray departed this life. He had started for the hospital at Lincoln but died enroute. He is survived by his widow and six children; Geo. McMurray of Smith county, Kans.; Helen Winifred Ducker, Red Cloud; Chas. G. McMurray, Lincoln; Mabel Peterson, Cora, Kans.; Lottie Aultz, Enola, Nebr.; Thos. A. McMurray, Ravenna, Nebr.

The funeral was held Monday, Dec. 18th from the residence, conducted by Rev. J. L. Beebe.
