Funeral services for R.L. "Bob" Burton who had lived in this area for 28 years were conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the Church of Christ with Bro. Chris Lyles officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Marvin Niblack, pastor of the Methodist Church.
Mr. Burton died Sunday morning at the Kennedy Veterans Hospital in Memphis following an illness of several months. He was 57.
A veteran of World War I, he has been active in many fields of occupations, having once been employed in the Post Office and the Frisco Railway Co., but for the past several years he was employed as bookkeeper for the Smith Gin Co. and the Still Gin Co.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Louise Burton; two sons, Bobby and Eddie; four daughters, Mrs. W.L. Neal of Holland, Mrs. Herman Towles and Mrs. Bill Whitaker of Steele and Mrs. George Hicks of Holland; three brothers, Harry Burton of Pascola, Limmie Burton of Memphis, Odie Burton of Caruthersville; and three sisters, Mrs. Dick Wall and Mrs. Charlie Ketchum of Steele and Mrs. Onie Graham of Blytheville.
Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery with German Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pall bearers were Herbert Ketchum, Ralph Ketchum, Harold Ketchum, Howard Graham, Joe Burton and Harry Burton, Jr.
