Herbert Westra, 16, Drowns Beneath Main Street Bridge:
Herbert Westra 16 year-old who lives at 225 North Broad Street was drowned in the Minnesota River in the channel under Main Street Bridge at noon today and efforts to restore life by artificial respiration proved unsuccessful. The youth, with several companions' was bathing on the Mankato side of the stream where it flows beneath the second arch from the North Mankato side of the bridge. He could not swim and it is beloved he stepped into a hole and was carried under by the current. The drowning occurred about 11:45 and just one minute after 12 o'clock his body was recovered.

Last Rites For Herbert Westra Will Be Monday:
Funeral services for Herbert Peter Westra, 16, who drowned shortly before noon yesterday while swimming in the Minnesota River beneath the Main Street Bridge will be held Monday afternoon at 1:45 o'clock at the home of his mother, Mrs Chester Erlandson, 228 North Broad Street and at 2:00 o'clock at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The services at the home will be private.
Rev. A Ackermann will conduct the services and burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Harres-Snearyd-Gosewich are in charge of arrangements.
In addition to his mother, the boy is survived by a sister, Mrs. Louis Frederick, Madison Lake; his stepfather, Chester Erlandson; and uncle Herman Kopplin, Chicago; his grandfather Julius Kopplin, Chicago; and two aunts, Mrs. Bertha Durrenfeld, Red Wing, and Mrs. Herman Melchard, Motley.
