Ronald D. Roth, 83, of Nazareth, passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the Cedar Crest Campus of Lehigh Valley Hospital. Born in Nazareth on January 20, 1929, he was a son of the late Roland S. and Lela G. (Fehr) Roth. He was a longtime resident of Flemington, NJ. He was graduated from Nazareth High School in 1946, received a B.S. from West Chester Teachers College, a Masters from Temple University and a Sp. Doctorate from Rutgers University. Before becoming a part of the original staff of North Hunterdon Regional High School in Annandale, New Jersey, Mr. Roth taught American History at Nazareth High School in 1950-51. At North Hunterdon he served as an English teacher, English Dept. Chairman, Director of Guidance and Curriculum, and Assistant Superintendent. He directed 22 school and faculty plays and took a years leave of absence in 1955-56 to become the Director of Guidance in the Nurnberg American High School in Germany. Mr. Roth was a life-long member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nazareth, the NEA, NJEA, Editor of the ASCD Newsletter and an officer of the New Jersey Guidance Association. He conducted a chronic illness study of Hunterdon County prior to the establishment of the Hunterdon Medical Center, was a founder and Board Member of the Jennie Haver Memorial Scholarship Fund, was a founder and Board Member of Hunterdon Helpline for forty years, Community Services Council member and officer for 44 years, volunteer for Wards of the court, Senior Center Board Member and Coordinator of the Bus to Culture, a founder of the Clinton Community Theater, a Literacy Volunteers Board Member, a barbershopper with the Hunterdon Harmonizers and an original member of the Hunterdon County Juvenile Commission. Currently, Mr. Roth was serving as the President of the Nazareth Area School District Blue Eagle Education Foundation. He loved auctions and antique shows, as well as skiing and traveling. Survivors: He is survived by his brother, James H. Roth and his wife, Helen of Nazareth; his sister, Lorraine Dreger and her husband, Rev. Wilfred L. of Nazareth; three nieces and two nephews; 10 grand-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Spencer. Services: Will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Broad St., Nazareth, PA 18064. Friends and relatives are invited to call on Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the church. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Moorestown. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the George G. Bensing Funeral Home, Inc., Moorestown-Bath. Contributions: May be made in memory of Mr. Roth to the Hunterdon Helpline, P.O. Mr. Roth, you were a wonderful teacher at NHRHS and many will miss you. Will always remember your smiling face. May God bless you richly in Heaven.
