Wharton Journal-Spectator, December 18, 2004:

Elwood John “Bunny” Meyer, age 82, of Wharton, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. He was born on Nov. 18, 1922, in Ellinger, the son of the late John Fritz Meyer and Leona Mary Ehlinger.

Mr. Meyer married Melba Lois Looper on Dec. 20, 1941, in Wharton. He worked as a welder for Texas Gulf Sulphur for 35 years until his retirement. Mr. Meyer was also a farmer and rancher. He was a lifelong resident of Wharton and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wharton. He was also a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, the Texas & Southwest Cattleman’s Association and The Jockey Club.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Laura Olson officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Melba Lois Meyer of Wharton; daughter, Candice Lois Meyer of Sugar Land; son and daughter-in-law, John Faghan and Shelley Meyer of Wharton; sisters, Virginia Samohyl of Wharton and Blanche Stern of Richmond; and grandchildren, Johnna Meyer and Leslie Meyer. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Johnnie Mae Aschenbeck.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family request memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 325 N. East Avenue, Wharton, TX 77488.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home in Wharton.
