Robert was born May 12, 1861 in Gosport, Owen Co., IN to John Atkinson Shelton and Catharine Haase.
He married Clara Bell Eisele on May 30, 1893. Clara was the daughter of Philipp Michael Eisele born in Germany and Eleanor Law born in Ohio.
Robert died on Jan 13, 1927 in Arcola, Douglas Co., IL. Clara died Nov. 18, 1944 in Arcola.
