"Christopher Palmer, b. Oct 10, 1735. Schuyler Falls was known as the Palmer settlement but was afterwards named by his eldest son Humphrey "Exeter" when, at the time of Rev. Christopher's death there were then living 8 children, 72 grandchildren, 135 great grandchildren and 37 great-great grandchildren."

At Exeter, state of New York, on the 4th of Nov, after a short but distressing illness of 4 days, Elder Christopher Palmer, aged 82 years, formerly of Stonington, in this state. He was ordained to the work of the ministry in the year 1781, over the First Baptist church of Colchester, where he remained and exercised the office of the Pastor for twenty years, when he removed to the state of New York, where he lived until that Being in whom he early placed his trust, sent the grim messenger of death and summoned him to the mansions of rest. In his manners he was polite and engaging, in the desk pathetic, solemn, and impressive, and in his public and private walks, he clearly demonstrated to the world of mankind, that the only way to happiness in this world, and a blessed immortality in this world to come, is through the merits of the Divine Redeemer. When his departure was nigh, he was resigned to the will of that God who governs the universe, and could say with emphasis "For me to live is Christ, but to die is gain".
