James Charles Tupes, 54, of Flatrock, W.Va., passed away Thursday, May 8, 2008, leaving behind his wife of 32 years, a daughter and a son.

He was born July 28, 1953, in Fairmont, a son of the late Lora (Gilles) Tupes and James Tupes of Parkersburg. He grew up in Ravenswood and attended Ravenswood High School and Parkersburg Community College. Jim was the owner of Jim's Tech & Tune, the former owner of Jim's Custom Meats in Ravenswood and a former employee of Ravenswood Specialty Services, Kaiser Aluminum, Ward's Market in Ravenswood and O. Ames in Parkersburg. He was a former member of PACE and the USWA and a coach for years of Roosevelt Elementary basketball.

Jim was married to Cynthia Lynn (Easter) Tupes and was the proud father of Kristel Dawn (Tupes) Smith of Austin, Texas, and Michael Paul Tupes of Lexington; and father-in-law of Nicholas Edwin Smith of Austin.

In addition, he is survived by sister, Donna Jo (Tupes) McKinniss of Mineral Wells; brother, John Alfred Tupes of Terra Haute, Ind.; brothers-in-law, Jeffrey Allen Easter and his wife, Martha, of Washington, W.Va., Douglas Craig Easter and his wife, Kym, of Greenville, S.C., and Mark McKinniss of Mineral Wells; and nieces and nephews, Kristina and Erik Snider of Mineral Wells, Savannah Easter of Greenville and A.J. Easter of Washington.

Donations may be made to the James Tupes Memorial College Fund at BB&T or the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with the Rev. Justin Moran officating. Burial will follow in Jackson Memory Gardens, Cottageville, W.Va. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
