The Light Dragoons
British Army
He was deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.
Sgt Davidson was killed when his Ridgeback vehicle struck an improvised explosive device while on patrol with the Afghan Uniform Police in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.
Aged 32, he was from Thorne, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, and started his working life as a pavement re-surfacer. He joined the Army in August 1998 and served operational tours to Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan with C Squadron (The Legion) The Light Dragoons. Next he was posted as an instructor of junior soldiers at the Army Foundation College at Harrogate. In 2011 he returned to the regiment as a Troop Sergeant in A Squadron. He deployed again to Afghanistan in April 2012 with Support Troop with the Brigade Reconnaissance Force. In June he was selected and re-trained in theatre to become the second-in-command of a Police Advisory Team. "Davo" was described as a superb soldier and natural leader. Articulate, intelligent and down to earth, he was liked by everyone.
