She was born Nina Fern LaRue on June 10, 1907, in Luther, Mich., and moved to California in 1928. In 1946, she moved to Grants Pass. On April 25, 1962, in Carson City, Nev., she married George A. Strimple who died in 1979.
Her hobbies included making latch hook rugs, embroidery, gardening, and yard work.
Survivors include a son, Fred Chartrand of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a daughter, Lila Layman of Glendale; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
