The son of John & Sarah (Hill) McCormick or McCormac, in 1860 he was a laborer presumably living in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, although he is not found with certainty in that census.
A Civil War veteran, he served four terms of service:
1. Enlisted in Pittsburgh, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg April 26, 1861, as a private with Co. K, 13th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company August 6, 1861.
2. Enlisted in Pittsburgh August 4, 1862, mustered into federal service there August 8 as 1st sergeant of Co. D, 123rd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 13, 1863.
3. Enlisted in Allegheny County July 16, 1864, mustered into federal service at Pittsburgh July 19 as captain of Co. H, 193rd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company November 9, 1864.
4. Enlisted in Pittsburgh February 7, 1865, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg March 6 with the 87th Pennsylvania Infantry as 2nd lieutenant of the second organization of F. Promoted to captain to date March 6, 1865, he honorably discharged with his company June 29, 1865.
Cause of death is listed as "pulmonary tuberculosis" with "age" a contributing factor.
