OBITUARY

Valentine Judd was born in Louisville, Kentucky, September 15,1835, and died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. I. C. Simlar, his stepchildren, near Youngstown, March 2,1913, aged 77 years, 5 months, and 15 days. He was among the oldest residents of Adair county, his parents having come here in 1850 when Mr. Judd was a lad of 15 years. They settled on a farm six miles west of Kirksville, and he had lived in that neighborhood over 65 years. His fathers family consisted of one daughter and three sons, all of whom are now dead but one, Chandler Judd, of Marceline, who with his wife attended the funeral of the deceased.
He was a soldier of the Civil War and a member of the Corporal Dix post, Grand Army of the Republic Kirksville. Mr Judd was held in highest esteem by a host of neighbors and friends. For years prior to his wife's death, it was the custom of all his friends to gather at his home once a year, and enjoy the rich hospitality of himself and wife. Honest, industrious, true to every interest of the highest citizenship, he will be sadly missed by his friends and neighbors among whom he walked so many years in the splendid character of a just and upright citizen.
