Father William McDonald, CSP, was born in North Cambridge, Massachusetts. He attended Boston College High School and worked for some years in Boston after graduation. He first entered the Redemptorist seminary but in 1927 transferred to the Paulist minor seminary in Baltimore. He was professed on September 30, 1931, and was ordained a Catholic priest on January 29, 1937, with Paulist classmates Vincent Holden, Thomas Holloran and Harold Masterson.
Upon ordination Father McDonald was assigned to Good Shepherd parish in New York where, by creating a novena of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, he gave much needed energy to the parish missions. After stints in California, New Jersey and New York he returned to his native Boston as Director of Public Relations for the Paulist Information Center on Park St. He flourished in what would turn out to be his final assignment.
He died in Boston on April 4, 1959, at the age of 55 after 22 years as a Paulist priest.
