Birth: unknown
Death: Sep. 22, 1933

James G. Knauss, better known as "Jim," roadman for the Allentown Morning Call and one of the best known newspapermen in the Lehigh Valley, died at 8:40 yesterday morning in his home, 27 South Eighteenth street, of complications, aged 51 years. He had been in ill health for the past three years. For more than a year he had practically been bedfast . The deceased was a native and life-long resident of this city, and by his genial manner made a large circle of friends, who regret his passing. Mr. Knauss was a son of the late W. Stephen and Hannah, nee Sherer, Knauss. He received his education in the local schools and later graduated from the Allentown Business college. After leaving school he became associated with his father in the leather finishing business. In 1912 he gave up that line of work and joined the circulation department of the Allentown Morning Democrat, and when that paper was absorbed in 1920 by the Morning Call, was retained in the same department as roadman. It was in this work that he became better known to readers and agents outside this city. He held that position up until the time of his illness. Mr. Knauss was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie, nee Turner. He is survived by two sons, Philip and James, this city; a sister, Hannah Knauss, Allentown, and three brothers, George W., Joseph S. and Abraham L. Knauss, all of Allentown. The latter is circulation manager for the Morning Call. The deceased was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church and Allentown lodge, No. 130, B.P.O. Elks. Funeral services will be held from his late home at 2 o'clock, Monday afternoon. His pastor , Rev. George A. Greiss, D.D., pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church, will officiate. Interment will be made in the family plot in West End cemetery.
