Bob's contributor bio on Findagrave:

I was born in Albany, OR in 1940; attended schools in Roseburg and Eugene; and graduated with a B. S. degree from the University of Oregon and a M. S. degree from Colorado State University. I spent 31 years with the U. S. Bureau of Land Management in states thoughout the West. I've been researching my family history and my wife's for 40 years and helping others with their family history research whenever possible. I volunteer in the genealogy department of the OR State Library. My family history research is summarized on RootsWeb WorldConnect Project (submissions by rdsjr).

Bob Saunders, 72, of Salem Oregon died peacefully at home after a lengthy illness. Wife, Jerri, family and many friends were at his side singing hymns and praying him into heaven on September 6, 2012.

Bob was born March 26, 1940 in Albany, OR to Robert D. Saunders, Sr. and Dorothy [Hoflich]. He graduated from South Eugene HS [1958]; University of Oregon [1963]; Colorado State University [1967].

Bob had a 30 year distinguished career with the Federal Bureau of Land Management receiving many awards and special citations.

His 40+ year Genealogy hobby led to volunteering after retirement at the Oregon State Genealogy Library. He also volunteered with his church family at Trinity Covenant Church, Salem Interfaith Hospitality Network, Red Cross and numerous other opportunities. He was a man who willingly helped others and lived his faith.

It is well known that Bob answered God's call in 1976 to become a true patriarch. A man who gave his life away so others would be blessed. Mankind has lost a godly-man, a man of integrity, a loving husband, an amazing father and a one of a kind friend who is loved by all because he knew how to love all of us. He was a faithful servant in many areas of church life and the community. He was an awesome Dad and a mentor to many youth. He will be sorely missed even as we rejoice at heaven's gain.

Bob's first birthday was March 26, 1940, Albany OR. His second and spiritual birthday was July 11, 1976 in Ukiah CA. Our lives changed dramatically. A new direction of serving the Lord became a priority. A move to Salem in 1977 found that direction taking shape as we settled into life at Trinity Covenant Church. His third and heavenly birthday was September 6, 2012 at home in Salem OR joining the company of saints in God's kingdom. He served the Lord with integrity and kindness. Well done good and faithful servant!

Bob and Jerri [Bonney] were married in Eugene OR on January 27, 1961.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years and two children: Robert D. Saunders III [Mary] and Anne Carlson [Vince]. Also surviving are: three grandchildren: Robert D. Saunders IV [Courtney], Aineka Carlson, and Gabe Carlson; One great-grandson: Alekzander Saunders; Brother, John Saunders [Toni] and family; Sister, Sally Baumgartner [Jim] and family.

He was preceded in death by parents Robert and Dorothy Saunders, one granddaughter, Bella Carlson and father-in-law Rex Bonney.

A memorial service will be Oct 13, 2012 at Trinity Covenant Church, 5 p.m., meal and fellowship will follow.
