Barney was the son of Howard Scott and Elvina Jane (Fortney) Floyd. He was the husband of Kathryne May (Templeman) and the father of Barney Scott.
Barney died on his wife's birthday and was buried on the day his son, Barney Scott, was born.

He died when his car went into a canal. He got his younger brothers out of the car, but was to tired to fight the current of the water and drowned.
Barney was 22 yrs and 2 days old when he died.
