Adolf (or Adolph) Klammer was born in Poland, the son of Anna nee Blank and her second husband Johann Klammer. Anna was previously married to Andreas Lilge Sr and she was widowed with five sons.

Three of Adolph's older half brothers came to Canada from Volhynia, Russia as well:
Half-brother: Ludwig Lilge, 1849-1906
Half-brother: Rev. Andreas Lilge Jr., 1851-1916
Half-brother: Wilhelm Lilge, 1853-1934
