Amanda Jane (Janie) Latimer was the last of the twelve children of Francis H. and Rebecca (Runkle) Latimer. Having come to Kansas at the age of six with her parents and siblings, this lovely young lady, apparently in good health, was struck down by an unknown and fast-acting illness. The grieving family laid her to rest on the family farm north of Holton. Some years later, her body was exhumed, moved to the Holton Cemetery and buried among others of her family.

Leaving to mourn her loss, in addition to her parents, were her nine siblings, Lyndes, Sarah, Sophia, Lyman, Ellen, Louise, Matilda, Marion and James, and her grandmother Thankful Matilda Latimer.

Preceding her in death were a brother, George, a sister, Harriet and her grandfather, Lindis L. Latimer.
