HAYS --- Phyllis J. Fike, 62, Topeka, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, in Finzel, Md.

Mrs. Fike had been employed as the religious education secretary at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Topeka.

She was born Dec. 26, 1939, in Hays, the daughter of Julius and Virginia Younger Engel.

Survivors include her husband, Gary R. Fike, Topeka; a son, Aaron R. Fike, Flanders, N.J.; a daughter, Dawn M. Fike, Fredericksburg, Va.; two brothers, Julius Engel and Francis "Butch" Engel, both of Hays; a sister, Anita Kreutzer, Glendale, Colo.; and a grandson.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. Burial will be in Finzel, Md., Cemetery. A parish vigil service will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Garrett County or to the Finzel, Md., Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund and sent in care of the funeral chapel.
