Evelyn lived in Paducah, Kentucky with her family until the death of her mother in 1912. Because of her young age, 5, she was sent to live with her Aunt Amelia and Uncle Johnny Woody in Maury County, Tennessee. After Aunt Amelia tragically died in 1920, Evelyn remained in Maury County for a couple of years and then moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas to live with her brother Clyde. Evelyn graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1926. She worked as a telephone operated after high school. Evelyn P. Church married Milford G. Bayliss on September 6, 1934 in Jefferson County, Arkansas. They had two children together. They moved to Alabama and then Mississippi in the 1940's. Evelyn opened Bayliss Grocery in Jackson, MS and ran it for several years. In 1968, they purchased 88 acres and moved to Florence, MS.
