Our mother Martha "Virleen" Henry Dixon always went by her middle name Virleen. Mom always said she was named Virleen after her beloved father Virgil Henry. Virleen was born to Virgil and Myrtle Henry in Colquitt, GA. Raised on a farm mom would tell us about her pet pig she had. I found the old photo of her and her pet pig which was not the pot belly pigs we see now as pets, this was a regular pigpen pig. Virleen loved to tease her older brothers and often told on them just to get them in trouble. After all she was her daddy's little girl and she made no bones about it as she was spoiled rotten by our grandfather. Virleen and her family moved to Florida just before she became a teen. She attended Madison High School and graduated with honors in 1956. While Virleen was in school she was very popular. In high school she played on the basketball, and softball team and was a member of the BETA team as a student at Madison High School in Madison, FL.

She married Winford Dixon on Feb 2, 1957 and just 2 days after their 1 year wedding anniversary she gave birth to their 1st of 3 daughters, Saundra Jean Dixon, Brenda E. Dixon and Debra D. Dixon. Virleen and Winford Dixon later divorced.

Virleen aided in the care of her parents for many years. Virleen then followed her 3 daughters who all had moved to Texas . She continued to work field of customer service and retired from Kmart. As her health started to decline she lived in an assisted living care. Virleen enjoyed weekly visits with her youngest daughter Debbie. Virleen loved her grandchildren and spoiled them with the nosiest toys for Christmas and laugh as we all took them home. She would say “I get to spoil them and send them back home”. But then came the great-grandkids who she really fell in love with the next generation. Virleen so enjoyed playing “Go fish” and other games with all the great grandchildren and again would laugh and say “I get to spoil them and send them back home” and that she did.

Virleen passed away with 2 of her 3 daughters by her side. Debbie and I saw the pain leave her face and the light of our Lord reflect from her as she was ushered to her heavenly home. Virleen had request to be laid to rest beside her beloved parents, brother, and baby sister in GA. I thank the Lord we were able to honor her wish. Mom was laid to rest beside her parents and family in the Gordon Cemetery, our family's cemetery for many past generations. We love and miss you mom.
