Benjamin was the son of Benjamin B. Nale and Verdie Olive Beaird Nale. He attended Farmerville High School in Farmerville, Union Parish, Louisiana.
In 1943, Benjamin entered the US Army. He trained at Camp Butner, North Carolina and Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Benjamin served in the European Theater of Operations. He was awarded the ATO Medal, EAME Ribbon, GC Medal and Victory Medal. In 1945, Benjamin was discharged.
Benajmin was the 9th great grandson of Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower. Stephen was a passenger on the Mayflower and Signer of the Mayflower Compact. He was the 8th great grandson of Giles Hopkins, son of Stephen Hopkins. Giles was a child on the Mayflower. Stephen Hopkins was also to Jamestown, Virgina before his voyage on the Mayflower.
Three of Benjamin's ancestors are documented Daughters of the American Revolution soldiers and patriots. These ancestors are Captain James Green, Jesse Cook and John Cole.
