Alex Klemaseski was born June 24, 1918, to Alexander J. Klemaseski and Alexandra Nieslowski at New Hampton, N. Y. Alex grew up on a farm near New Hampton. As a young boy he had to quit school in the sixth grade to help the family earn a living, truck farming. Later, he worked at the New York State Institution for Boys as a light truck driver and helping to supervise the gardening. Alex was very proud to have served in the United States Army, with the rank of Private First Class. He was inducted into the Army at Fort Joy, N. Y. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater, stationed on the Island of New Caledonia. While there, he was in the motor pool as a light truck driver, ambulance driver and hospital orderly. Upon returning to the states he spent time in several military hospitals recovering from military related health issues. After returning to the United States, he married LaRayne Virginia Tholen (from Little Falls), in Atlanta, Ga., in August 1944. He and LaRayne settled in Little Falls, where they remained for the rest of their lives. Alex worked for the Hines Standard Oil Company, Sears as custodian and the Little Falls Transcript as custodian. Alex was a life member of the following organizations, Little Falls VFW Post #1112, American Legion Post #46 and the Disabled American Veterans. He was bingo chairman at the VFW for many years. In his later years he was a volunteer van driver, taking veterans to medical appointments. He logged hundreds of hours doing volunteer driving. He and LaRayne were honored many times for the number of volunteer hours they gave to his fellow veterans. He loved maintaining his gardens, taking his family for car rides, doing a little pan fishing and playing cards with other couples.
