Edward Burnett Wagar, 73, of S. Lake Ave., passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2000, in the Waters of Park Point health-care facility after a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 8, 1926, in St. Cloud, Minn., to George G. Burnett and Anna (Friday) Wagar. Much of his youth was spent in St. Cloud, Brainerd and Aitkin areas before moving to Duluth. He married Georgina H. Tronnes Oct. 18, 1957, in First Lutheran Church. He sailed on the Great Lakes for U.S. Steel Corp. as a watchman, wheelsman and bos'n's mate. He also served in the Merchant Marine. He retired from Sears. He had a special interest in boats, trains and enjoyed polka music.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Myasthenia Gravis Foundation, Minnesota State Chapter, charter member of Northeastern Minnesota MG Support Group and a member of the Northland Chapter of MDA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Philip Noble Wagar.
Edward is survived by his wife and best friend of 42 years, Georgina ''Georgie''; a special son, Kevin D. Thompson, of San Diego; a special daughter, Tiffany C. Czeczok, of Esko; his stepmother, L. Jane (Donald) La Tarte, of Grand Rapids; sisters Lois Stice of Vancouver, Wash., Phyllis Wagar of Hillsboro, Ore., and Joan Renner of Duluth; a half-sister, Cynthia Wagar of Richfield, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed many wonderful friends.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. service Monday in First Lutheran Church. The Rev. Rebecca Ellenson officiating. Interment in Park Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home.
