Henry Donald "Don" Kohl, a devout Catholic went home to be with the Lord on, Friday, Aug. 24, 2012. He was born Sept. 14, 1918 in Bellvue, Ky., and is the son of the late Bertram A. Kohl and Helen Moran Kohl. Moved to Chattanooga in the early 1930's and graduate of Notre Dame High School, class of 1937. He graduated from the University Chattanooga in 1941, with a degree in accounting. Enlisted in the army in 1941, and is WWII veteran. Went overseas in October 1943, served in Northern Ireland, England, France, Germany, Holland and Belgium and was discharged in October 1945.He joined the Knights of Columbus in the early 1950's, and was a charter member of the 6099. Held many offices through his years at Knights of Columbus, including Secretary, Treasurer, Advocate, Deputy Grand Knight, Grand Knight, District Deputy, Faith Navigator of the 4th Degree. As a charter member, had a yearly golf tournament in his honor. Also became an active member of the Serra Club of Chattanooga, a Catholic Vocation Group in the 1980's.He received his law degree at Belmont College in Nashville, Tenn., in the late 1960's. He worked for L T Morris accounting firm and then Southern Technology from 1974 until early July 2012.He resided at Alexian Village, Signal Mountain for 28 years. In his retirement years Don loved to travel, dance and most of all entertaining and being around his friends. He was a very generous and giving person, contributed to many charities. He had an extraordinary sense of humor, kind heart and a true southern gentleman. Don will be dearly missed by his family, extended family and all the friends he acquired in the span of his 94 years.Preceded in death by his brother John G. Kohl and wife Marie P. (Rosambeau) Kohl, of Florida. He is survived by nephew, John G. Kohl II, of Florida; niece Mary G. Kokoska and husband Eugene, of Mass.; and nephew David W. Kohl, of Florida. He is also survived by 9 grand nieces; and nephews and 9 great-grand nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 31, prior to memorial service beginning at 10:15 a.m. at Alexian Village, St. Augustine Chapel. Memorial service 11:15 a.m., 437 Alexian Way, Signal Mountain.Burial will be private at Mt.
