Birth: Jul. 30, 1815
Berks County
Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Nov. 30, 1863
Lehigh County
Pennsylvania, USA

Jacob was a son of Jacob & Susanna (Jung/Young) Bittenbender. His name is found on the will of his father Jacob dated 1859. He was married to Sara (Wagner) on 03 June 1838 (NOT TO BE CONFUSED with Sara Ann (Wagner) Bomboy born in 1821 or Sarah (Wagner) Ritzman born in 1823, who lived in different counties); they had at least 11 children: Suzanah (1838-1904), Henry (1841-1915), Maria (1843-1909), John (1844-1903), Sara Anna C. (1847-1858), Jacob F. (1850-1853), Mannoah "Meno" (1854-1910), Catherine Emmalinda (1856-1923), Eliza (b. abt 1858), Amanda (b. 20 Aug. 1861, died ?), and David (1863-1928). Census records show Jacob & Sara in 1850 and 1860 in Longswamp, Berks Co., Pa.; in 1870 they were in Upper Milford, Lehigh Co. Sara, a widow, is shown on the 1880 Upper Milford census (living with sons Henry (married) and Meno (single) and Sara is not found in the 1900 census. Henry and Meno are both buried at St. Peter's cemetery, as well as son John and daughter Suzannah. Jacob was a farmer in the Longswamp and Upper Milford areas and died at the young age of 48 years of unknown causes. The actual tombstones of Jacob and Sara have not been found; they are thought to have been at St. Peter's and disappeared over the years. The cemetery at St. Peters was in derelect shape many years ago, and in the 1930s it was leveled and tombstones rearranged. Some were missing or crumbled. In fact, years later, some tombstones were found close by that were turned over and found to be used as stepping stones). A memorial for a number of missing or crumbled tombstones has been erected at St. Peters.
