Erskine Corn was born on February 2, 1923 in a small log cabin in the Corn Town section of Henderson County. He was the son of Zebulan Vance Corn and Mary Beulah Holbert Corn, one of nine children. Upon the death of his father, Erskine Corn went to work having completed the seventh grade. At that young age, he walked behind a mule for ten hours a day to help support his family. He became self-employed and continued to work until a few weeks before his death. Erskine served his country in North Africa, Sicily, Normandy and Germany during WWII.
