Shirley Kay Neely, 75, a lifelong resident of Pleasant Hill, was born Friday, July 16, 1937 in Pleasant Hill, the daughter of Jesse Lee and Pearl Ellen (Colbert) McDonald. She departed this life at 12:33 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Kansas City Hospice House, surrounded with love and family.

On December 26, 1958, Shirley was united in marriage to Roy Ernest Neely in Pleasant Hill. He preceded her in death on August 24, 1997.

Shirley was a homemaker. She enjoyed dining out with family and friends, reading, and sewing in her spare time.

She was preceded in death by two brothers Ralph McDonald and Robert McDonald; and four sisters Esther Barman, Dorothy Slaughter, Faye Combs, and Jessie Anne Henry.

Shirley is survived by one son Glenn (and Nancy) Neely of Olathe; two daughters Becky (and Norman) Caven of Pleasant Hill, and Gail (and Tony) Prescott of Lake Lotawana; three grandchildren Michael Smith of Blue Springs; Jill (and Jeremy) Elsas of Grapevine, Texas, and Sara (and John) Klein of Blue Springs; three great grandchildren Jake Elsas, Mason and Lincoln Klein; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 27, 2012, at the funeral home. Reverend Richard Williams of the New Covenant Fellowship Church in Garden City will officiate.

Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
