"Drowns in Lake Cumberland Sunday. Funeral services of James Russell Sims, 47, Munfordville, business man and native of Monroe County, who drowned Sunday, 6 August 1967, in Lake Cumberland, were held Wednesday, at Munfordville Baptist Church. Burial was in the Munfordville Cemetery. Mr. Sims, the son of Mrs Mattie Sims, of Tompkinsville, and the late Iscar Sims, owned and operated a Western Auto Store in Munordville, and owned the Hart Theater here. WItnesses say the Sims family was spending a weekend aboard their houseboat, about a mile and a half from the Jamestown dock. Members of the family were aboard the boat, when Mr. Sims threw a life preserver into the water and jumped in after it. When he failed to come up, his wife and his son-in-law, Mitchell Locke, jumped in after him. They got a partial grasp on him, then lost it, and Sims went under. The newly formed Hart Coutny Rescue Squad and divers from Louisville, recovered the body at 1:15 pm Monday during a dragging operation. Survivors, other than his mother, are his wife, Mrs. Martha Sims; four sons, Russell, Jackie, Bobby and Tommy, all of Munfordville; one daughter, Mrs Sharon Locke, of Munfordville; two brothers, Hoyt Sims, of Tompkinsville and Joe B Sims, of Yancy, KY. and one sister, Mrs. Robert Haight, of Greenup, KY.
