RICHARD B. BECK, 87, WAS ACTIVE IN EPHRATA SPORTS
Richard B. Beck, 87, of Brethren Village, Neffsville, and formerly of Ephrata, died at the home Monday afternoon.

He was the husband of Alverta Fasnacht Beck. They were married for 64 years on Feb. 14. He and his wife had lived at Brethren Village since 1990.

Born in Ephrata, Beck was the son of the late Clarence and Annie Butzer Beck.

He was a member of Ephrata Church of the Brethren, where he served as a caretaker for 31 years until his retirement in 1984.

Previously, he worked as a tool grinder for Rockwell International Corp. in Reading. He retired in 1971 after 45 years.

Active in all sports, Beck was a member of the former Ephrata Yellow Jackets semi-pro football team and Chrysler Baseball Team. He also played on a basketball team in Ephrata and coached the Ephrata Veterans of Foreign Wars football team.

He served on the first board of directors of Ephrata Recreation Center.

Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Linda B. Fahnestock of Ephrata and Barbara Young of Lancaster; two sisters, Kathryn Bryson of Brethren Village and Arlene Beck of Lititz; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
