Ellen was the daughter of Peter and Temperance Miller Van Winkle. Peter was an early settler of the War Eagle valley and a wealthy lumber king. She married James A.C. Blackburn 20 Jan 1868. They had four daughters, Connie, Lucy Maude, Lorinda Mae and Mary Cate. Lucy and Mary died in childhood and are buried with their parents.
