Linda Janis Culbertson of Ruckersville, Virginia passed away at her residence on Friday June 1, 2012. She was born on Sunday September 1, 1940 in Glasgow, Ky. the daughter of Everett and Fonzie Hunt Smith. She was very active in her church, singing and playing the piano throughout her teen years. She was a 1958 graduate of Cumberland County High School, attended Berea College, before taking a summer job in the summer of 1959 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. There she met her future husband of fifty-one years, Jim Culbertson, whom she soon married and they made their home in Ventor, New Jersey. After raising their children and retiring, they relocated to their beautiful lake home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Throughout her life, Janis appreciated good music, books and films. Perhaps the only things she was more passionate about were her husband, her family and her friends. Besides being a loving wife and caring and devoted mother to her four children, she held positions with Dr. Stanley Frogel; the Golden Nugget, Ballys Grand and Hilton hotel casinos in Atlantic City, New Jersery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Culbertson, Sr., her son, David Everett Culbertson, five infant siblings, her sister and singing partner, Carol Smith Raube. She leaves to cherish her memory and mourn her passing, her children, James Jr. and Beth-Ann Culbertson, Lori and Don Stone and Kathleen "Cubby" and Joe Fisher, her grandchildren, Chuck, Thomas, Joe "JJ", Emily, James III "Colby" Donnie, Jack and Sean, her siblings, Kathy and Mike Mosby and Richard and Linda Smith. A memorial service honoring Janis will be held on Saturday August 18, 2012 at 6:00 P. M. on the former Everett Smith Farm at 9880 Smith Grove Road, Burkesville, Ky. Interment will follow in the Smith Grove Cemetery. The family would appreciate expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to The Smith Grove Cemetery Fund – P.O.
